Need a plunger? Go to Target. Need towels? Go to Target. Need covers for your car seats? Need a new controller for your PlayStation? Need shampoo? Need pencils? Need shoes? Need fucking underwear? Target. Target. Target. Target. Target. TARGET! You have no choice in the matter. If you need anything, even a place to go hang out on Friday night, you go to Target. And if not Target, you go to Target's bastard brother and sister, K-Mart and WalMart. They're all the same damn thing, you know that? They're soul magnets. You want to go somewhere else, yet you're drawn to them. You only want to be "in and out", not spend more than ten minutes inside because you know what you want, yet an hour later you've got a cart with all kinds of shit you don't need. They're evil. I'm tired of them. They are, in fact, the inspiration for my project. No chains. That's it. I'm goig to force myself to see what else there is in the world. I need something? Let's go on an afventure and see who has it OTHER than Target. And it doesn't stop there. No chains, period. No Tower Records, no AMC movie theaters, no 76 gas stations, no Albertson's for food, and no Toys R Us. It's a tough challenge for someone who lives in the city (or near Target) like everyone else. But, from what my friends tell me, it's noble. It's inspirational. It's what they wish they could do. Nobody thinks they can go one week without chain stores, so I'm going to go one month. Believe me, everyone goes to these places, and they go often. I'm going to stop. And that's it. I have a lot of supporters, and a few people trying to actually get me to not do it, but it's going to happen. All these stores, they give me a headache. When I'm inside one of them, my head hurts and my stomach aches. When I know I'm on my way to one of them, I get tired and lose all energy. If I want a record, do I HAVE to go where everyone else goes? If I want some french fries, do I HAVE to go where everyone else goes. It's stifling to think that the way life has been built up lately, there's a predetermined place for you to go for anything you could possibly want or need. I have had enough of Target and it's evil corporate allies, and the dependancy they've instilled in all of us. I'm going to fight back the only way I know how, and that's to save myself. |
